Ontario Home Warranty

Due to homeowner's concern with radon gas as a potential health hazard within their homes, Tarion is addressing this serious issue.  The Tarion Home Warranty will cover the costs of mitigating radon from homes, provided a radon test proves a high level of radon. If radon gas within a home exceeds Health Canada’s acceptable levels of 200Bq/m3, then Tarion will cover the costs required to mitigate a home up to a limit of $50,000.  If your home is less than 7 years old and you want to and out if your home is eligible for radon coverage, contact Tarion.

Coverage for Radon Claims

If radon gas levels exceed Health Canada’s acceptable levels of 200 Bq/m3, the home does not meet OBC guidelines, then Tarion will cover the costs of mitigating your home up to $50,000.


Process of Making a Claim

In order for radon claims to be accepted, the homeowner must supply:

  • Test results identifying average radon levels in basement (finished or unfinished, but not from crawl spaces)
  • Identification of test methodology (short-term test: less than 3 months, or long-term test: minimum 3 months as per Health Canada’s “Guide for Radon Measurements in Residential Dwellings (Homes)”
  • Test measurements and results from a certified professional by the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP). 
Radon mitigation must be completed by a C-NRPP Mitigation Professional, contact Tarion Warranty provider prior to mitigating.
