The webinar, co-presented by NCCHPP and NCCEH, will feature a case involving radon and will highlight both evidence and ethics. This webinar has been developed primarily for public health inspectors, but should also be of interest to a general audience.
Our goal is to present the case and a brief discussion of the evidence regarding risk, remediation and some of the issues facing inspectors, building owners and managers, not to mention homeowners and the general public. Then we will turn our attention to considering the ethical issues raised by the case. To do this, we will present an ethics framework in order to guide ethical deliberation in which participants will:
- Identify ethical values and issues that are pertinent to the case,
- Consider how some conflicts may arise between values,
- Think about how to balance those conflicts in order to decide what to do.
Our goal in presenting this webinar is to add to participants' practical means to draw ethical considerations into their day-to-day practice. We will provide several resources for further reading including material about radon, more introductory material about public health ethics and links to several frameworks that can help make ethics more accessible for practitioners.
This is the first in a series of webinars presented by the NCCHPP in collaboration with our colleagues at the NCCs for public health. This series will focus on combining evidence and ethics to improve decision making in diverse sectors of public health practice. Our goal is to help practitioners to incorporate ethical perspectives into their everyday practices, with webinars designed to be relevant for practitioners in the various areas served by the different NCCs.

This webinar is accredited by the École de santé publique de l'Université de Montréal (University of Montréal's School of Public Health). The process is free. To obtain your continuing education units, you must participate in the webinar and sign in to the platform using your name and surname as indicated in your registration form. You must also fill in an online evaluation form that will be sent by e-mail after the webinar. Your continuing education credit certificate will then be delivered to you by email.
